The High Seas of Glory

His lifestyle
Chosen by terrain.
Branded at birth
By legacy.
He will man the helm
When the captain moves on.
His mentor, his god
His position cemented.
A throne to be envied
But upon achievement
The foreboding sentence
Is made all too clear.
Death
The inevitable consequence
Of his birthright
Yet he knows no fear
Like those who have come before
Like the hero’s of his land
His youth and vigor will be sacrificed
Into the depths of his watery tomb.

  1. Great poem about the human condition. Reminds me of Dostoyevski facing execution before his sentence was changed and was allowed to live; then feeling free having come to terms with dying.

  2. The end comes. It is inevitable. It is what we do with the in-between that matters – and to take such a position in hand, to grab the wheel and embrace the life before them…that is the best way. Fine piece.

  3. Dear Natasha… I liked it so much .. thanks for sharing.. ॐ नमः शिवायOm Namah Shivayahttp://shadowdancingwithmind.blogspot.comTwitter @VerseEveryDay
